I love the bare bones of January. Stripped of the distraction & decoration of Christmas, our homes (and lives) can feel stark and empty. Yet as the month unfolds a sense of calmness emerges.
The beginning of the year is an opportunity to simplify and start again.
January is the time to declutter; to remove & recycle all that stuff which accumulated during the last year. It’s a detox for the interior & the diary.
Seeing the skeleton structure of home & daily living, allows us a fresh perspective on the familiar and to refocus on what is important.
A focus on my own health & wellbeing will be a priority for 2022. I aim to further my yoga practice & to pursue my interest in pottery making.
Interiors wise, I will be reimagining the girls’ bedrooms for a fresh update as they are getting older.
I will also be decluttering The Small Home; partly because we are being featured by the wonderful @91Magazine and there will be nowhere to hide untidy piles of stuff from a photographer’s lens; but also, because I like to return to basics, to an interior which is simple and serene.
As important as the clutter we release, are the essentials we retain. Luxury products which enhance daily living are the focus of my January wish list.
Here is our edit of bestselling basics to help you get the most out of this month.
Update bed socks that have seen better days with our super-soft Rototo Oat socks, imagine your comfiest sweatshirt... but made into organic cotton socks! Add a real sheepskin rug next to your bed for the ultimate morning greeting.
Add some greenery to your indoor space in our beautiful handmade planters. Hang soothing ceramic chimes near a window in your bedroom or bathroom and enjoy their soft sounds.
Replace chipped mugs with artisan ceramics. Try Brickett Davda's tactile mugs and fill with Wilder Botanics cleansing and refreshing teas.
Spruce up neglected bathrooms with luxury bath rugs and banish toiletries to a washable Uashmama storage bag.
Fill your sitting room with the fresh and clean smell of our Rosemary and Bay Scented candles and hide from the outside world until spring arrives, under a soft merino wool blanket.
