Smell is such a powerful sense for triggering memories and emotions. Instantly taking us back to a moment in time, often reminding us of the joy of a particular moment.
I am a huge fan of fragrance and in particular, scented candles. Lighting one instantly lifts my mood, especially on a cold, dark day.
Over the years, I have tried many scented candles. And Mr Mac (who has a good sense of smell and is somewhat of a connoisseur when it comes to scent), has swiftly put many of these candles out. They are sometimes a little overpowering or cloyingly sweet.
When I decided to develop our own signature scent for The Small Home, I knew exactly what the inspiration would be.
Years ago, I remember staying at a beautiful Parisian hotel in the Place des Vosges. It had a grand drawing room, filled with old leather armchairs & beautiful books, with stunning parquet floors and two enormous crackling fires roaring at each end. There was a hint of a wood smoke & musky cologne lingering in the air. We passed the time happily playing cards and backgammon.
‘Chez Moi’, (My home), encapsulates the comforting ambiance of that room.
A subtle and sophisticated scent, with earthy notes of wood smoke, musk and leather with a hint of spice. Refined over time, I knew when it was right & I was transported back to that place in Paris.
Made from sustainable soy wax, this candle is chemical free and kind to the environment. Fragranced with pure essential oils which give a sense of wellbeing.
I light this candle as I close my computer at the end of the working day. This ritual signifies that it’s time to relax and unwind, my work is done for the day.
