As much as I fantasise about living in a spotless, picture-perfect home, reality has other plans. With two kids, a dog, (and a husband), I’m firmly entrenched in a life of dog hair, crumbs, sticky fingers, and all the chaos that family life brings. And let’s face it - between vet bills, school supplies, and endless snack demands, I don’t have a fortune to spend on home décor.
But don’t worry, I’ve found a clever (and affordable) solution that keeps my home looking chic without breaking the bank - sheepskin rugs!
These cosy, budget-friendly lifesavers are perfect for hiding life’s little imperfections. Take, for example, the much-loved (and well-worn) old club chair you’ll see in the video below. It’s been given a new lease of life, thanks to a simple sheepskin throw.
Not only do they conceal a multitude of sins, but they’re also fantastic for protecting your upholstery. Considering the cost of reupholstering a sofa or armchair can be eye-watering, I prefer to strategically drape sheepskins on the backs and arms of furniture. It keeps things looking fresh and clean without the hefty price tag.
And the best part? They’re ridiculously easy to care for. A quick brush every now and then (I swear by a tangle teaser) keeps them fluffy and fabulous.
Now, full disclosure: there is one small downside. Sheepskin rugs are incredibly comfortable, which means your favourite spot on the sofa will inevitably be claimed by a napping dog, snoozing cat, or a husband who’s just “resting his eyes.”
If you love these little design tricks, let me know - I’ve got plenty more where that came from!
