January is a time for a slightly different way of dressing.
It’s the point in the season where we still want warmth and comfort, but we’re also craving simplicity — pieces that feel easy, familiar, and quietly put together. Clothing that works hard without asking for attention.
That’s where our Merino Gilet comes in.
It’s become one of those pieces I reach for instinctively. Not because it’s new or trend-led, but because it works — layered over knits, worn open or belted, dressed up or down. A true everyday layer.
And as we begin to think about packing away our heavier winter coats, the gilet becomes
the perfect mid-layer: warm enough to take the chill off, without the bulk of a full coat.
This edit shares two of my favourite ways I'm wearing mine right now.
Look One — Soft Tonal Dressing
There’s something very grounding about dressing in similar tones. Soft pinks, warm neutrals, natural textures — all working together quietly.
For this look, I’ve layered my Toasted Almond Merino Gilet (which has just come back into stock after selling out at Christmas) over my favourite blush fitted blouse. I’ve added a handmade Guatemalan belt in similar muted tones to give the outfit a little shape — this style is currently being made for our spring collection.
I’ve paired it with my cream Ribcage jeans and finished the look with neutral Adidas trainers and simple gold, vintage-style jewellery.
It’s the kind of outfit that feels comfortable enough for a day at home, but polished enough to wear out without thinking twice.
I love wearing my Merino Gilet like this — it’ s relaxed, warm, and easy.

Look Two — Clean & Layered
The same gilet, styled in a completely different way.
Here, I’ve paired my Cream Merino Gilet with denim and stronger colour to brighten up a grey January day. The contrast works beautifully — the softness of the merino against denim, with a pop of red adding warmth and interest.
I’ve styled this with this season’s barrel-leg jeans (a recent weekend purchase), my favourite merino roll-neck — which I own in several colours — and a layered denim shirt. It’s a combination I reach for often, as it’s warm enough to wear out without a coat as we head towards spring.
Adding the cream gilet over the top breaks up the denim and adds that extra layer of softness and warmth.
I finished the look with my Japanese high-top trainers, a vintage red belt, and a little preview of our Merino Wool Hat — a prototype planned for next autumn. Let me know what you think of it.

Why we love our Merino Gilet
This piece has become a favourite for a reason.
- Naturally warm, without feeling heavy
- Perfect for those in-between days when a coat feels like too much.
- Soft and breathable for all-day wear
- Designed for layering.
- Easy to style, season after season
It’s not a trend-led piece — it’s one you build a wardrobe around.
A Final Thought
I always come back to the idea of dressing with intention. Choosing fewer pieces, choosing them well, and letting them work together over time.
I’m a big believer in a capsule wardrobe — investing in pieces that feel good to wear, last beautifully, and earn their place in your everyday life.
The Merino Gilet does exactly that.
