Whilst we are all about timeless style at The Small Home, we’ve made a rare exception for a trend... The shearling gilet.
This current trend for AW23 aligns with values we hold dear: everyday luxury, relaxed comfort, and a pale and elegant colour palette.
If you are looking for a timeless addition to your winter wardrobe – stop the search.
These forever pieces are made from high-quality, ethically sourced materials, will elevate the most ordinary of outfits, and bring you joy for years to come. Here’s why.
SEVEN THINGS TO LOVE ABOUT OUR SHEARLING GILETS
I hate being too hot or too cold. A shearling gilet gives me control of my thermostat, keeping me cosy but not too hot. Natural materials offer better temperature regulation so you don’t overheat or sweat as you might wearing synthetic fibres. This makes the gilet a versatile transitional piece to see you through from autumn to spring.
I love cosy layering and these gilets work wonderfully over everything from a lighter T-shirt, silk shirt, cashmere sweater, right through to heavier denim or leather jackets. As the temperatures drop, continue layering with a scarf, hat, and gloves, until you reach your personal peak of toastiness. In the deepest winter, the gilet can be layered under outerwear.
All the feels
Snuggly to wear, toasty to the touch, these beautifully textured pieces bring the feels-good factor to your wardrobe.
I hate feeling restricted and prefer clothing which allows me to move freely. Wearing this gilet means I can drive easily without feeling bundled up in a coat; or sit at my desk with my arms free to type or sketch without restrictions.
The gilet’s neutral tones ensure it will go with pretty much everything you already own. Wear as a contrast to a sophisticated black dress and dark boots; or use to add a layer of texture in an outfit of a similar palette.
The outfit maker
Dress it up or dress down, this adaptable piece hits the sweet spot between elegant effort and relaxed luxe. I travelled to New York wearing our longline gilet, a cashmere jumper, cream tracksuit bottoms and trainers - I felt super comfortable, yet stylish enough to go straight out for a cocktail on my arrival.
Rest assured that all our sheepskins are ethically sourced from suppliers who prioritise animal welfare. All skins used are by-products of the meat industry, ensuring a responsible and sustainable approach.
SELECT YOUR STYLE
Simple and elegant, this crop boxy fit sits on the waist, has a round-cut neckline, and raw cut edges. It’s fine enough to wear under a coat for additional warmth, or to leave on as a lightweight layer in a restaurant or theatre. Being reversible, it allows you to flex different styles.
Bringing a 70’s vibe, this gilet looks sensational teamed with flares, or with a Bohemian-style dress or skirt. With cream sheepskin on the inside and trim, and soft beige Nappa leather on the outside, this is warmer than the reversible shearling gilet. It has a more fitted style that would suit a petite physique, and comes in two sizes.
This long shearling gilet is ultra luxurious. Featuring natural curly longer hair sheepskin on one side, with elegant beige suede on the reverse, it is limited edition because long hair sheepskin is highly sought after and in short supply. The elegant lines of this gilet are ideal for a taller figure. Team with flares and our high heeled clogs for a timeless take on a trend.
